DOCUMENT LIFECYCLE MANAGEMENT –
DATA ARCHIVING

Data archiving as part of SAP NetWeaver serves to ensure a high level of performance of the SAP systems – keeping the system lean. Continuous migration of non-required SAP data to archives using the Archive Development Kit (ADK) ensures that program durations (e.g. of monthly statements) do not increase steadily.

A migration to SAP HANA can also be a trigger for data archiving. Any system reduction made in advance saves costs that would otherwise be incurred for a larger main memory.

In addition, data archiving can be used as a means of secure data deletion. By analyzing your technical and legal regulations regarding relevant archiving objects, your customer-specific data deletion can be coordinated and implemented.

Our approach to your data archiving:

Analysis phase

  • Analysis of the greatest potential for data reduction and data avoidance
  • Definition of the rules for administrative objects (eg IDOC)
  • Defining the business rules for functional archiving objects

Concept phase

  • Definition of archiving chains
  • Preparation of archiving strategies for the future
  • Considering the dependencies on your legal regulations (eg DSGVO)
  • Securing access to archived data (standard SAP, PBS add-on)

Installation phase

  • Test runs on the defined archiving chains
  • Optimization of the archiving chains
  • Initial productive data archiving
  • Continuous productive data archiving

Conception and test phases are
crucial for efficient data archiving

Much of the project effort is spent on the conception and testing phase. Here, for each relevant archiving object (business area), the company-specific retention period, exclusive of specific organizational units, document types or time periods must be analyzed and defined. The continuous data archiving can then usually be carried out in analogous to the requirements of the project.

Access to your archived data
is provided

However, to help you systematically reduce the volume of your database using data archiving, a new approach is needed: not all data will be readily available in the future. Instead, you need to define which data must be available by when, and what access to archived data that is not directly accessible can look like. We set process-oriented criteria to ensure that all your data is stored on time and according to your accessibility.
